Hair & Nail Evaluation and Treatment

Our dermatologists are experts in evaluating and treating conditions that affect hair and nails.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 80 million people have hereditary thinning hair or baldness.

Problems with nails are common among senior citizens. These changes include nail color or shape, swelling around the nail, changes in nail thickness, bleeding, discharge, or pain, and may signal changes in general health. Fungal infections cause half of all nail problems. Other conditions that cause nail problems include anemia, diabetes, and internal organ problems. Melanomas can also grow under nails and are categorized by dark streaks, especially if the discoloration expands in width or does not grow out over time.

Hair problems affect people of all ages. People normally shed hair at the rate of up to 100 hairs per day. Regardless of the rate of shedding, hair loss occurs when the amount or density of hair remaining on the scalp decreases noticeably. The most common cause of hair loss is hereditary hormonal hair loss, and is known as male or female pattern hair loss.

It’s not difficult to treat most hair and nail disorders. It just takes training, experience, and careful consideration of the patient in order to customize a plan that’s right for you.
